Apple Redesigns ‘Made For iPhone/iPad/iPod’ Logos, Expects Changes In 90 Days

Apple appears to be drawing a veil over its history of bezeled, home button-enabled gadgets for good. Its labels for accessories compatible with Apple devices have recently been redesigned—and like its products, the new look is more streamlined and minimalist.

Per Chargerlab, the emblems of Apple’s ‘Made-for-iPhone/iPad/iPod’ (MFi) program have been given a long-overdue update, with the icons of the devices being stripped off to be replaced with the Apple logomark.

If you’re not familiar with the program, it provides logos for certified manufacturers to prove that their products meet Apple’s quality standards.

Having retained its appearance since 2010, Apple also flipped its text to “iPhone iPad iPod,” from the previous “iPod iPhone iPad,” apart from removing the outdated icons. The refreshed hierarchy indicates the iPod’s diminishing demand.

Of course, Apple has swapped the print’s Myriad typeface with the newer ‘San Francisco’, which is now its universal official typeface.

Additionally, the legibility of the new signage—which includes amped-up whitespace—makes it easier on the eyes when pasted on product packaging.

The simpler design is also more future-proof, and unless Apple redesigns its logo, it’s likely to last longer than the previous version’s eight-year lifespan.

The revamp was introduced in February, and manufacturers are expected to make the switch in the next 90 days.
