Upset Hindu devotees are urging a brewery to withdraw one of its products.

Baffo Craft Brewery, based in Palmi, Italy has received criticism for the packaging design of its ‘Ganesh Craft Beer’. It features an image of Lord Ganesh carrying a mug of alcohol and beer bottle.

According to Hindu religion, Lord Ganesh is a respected deity who is also known as the Lord of Good Fortune, Lord of Beginnings, and the Remover of Obstacles for both material and spiritual hurdles.

On Baffo’s website, however, the double malt amber-colored beer was described as a drink that is best paired with meat and cold cuts.

Rajan Zed, the President of Universal Society of Hinduism, explained that misusing Hindu deities for commercial use is disrespectful and it hurts devotees.

Recently, adidas and Pharrell Williams were also asked to rename their ‘Hu Holi’ apparel collection as it was deemed disrespectful to Hindus.
