Is it just fact that every ‘site-builder’ is shit? Can’t find a single competent one. : web_design

I have very little HTML/CSS experience, so I tend to stick to Squarespace, Shopify or Wix for my personal projects, however, I have NEVER found the one… they all have MASSIVE issues that makes me want to quit…

Squarespace is trash all-round.

Shopify is good, but the template-only philosophy kills it for me when I just want to edit one page’s code… otherwise it’s extremely bland due to lack of modularity.

Wix is the best builder, but I have heard many bad things about it and I just lost 2 weeks worth of progress because it refused to allow me to save, didn’t autosave, then reverted when I refreshed. I also cannot find the contact support button anywhere.

WordPress I have virtually no experience with but it also looks extremely template based (I need to be able to design freely – AKA drag and drop or code). WordPress also seems extremely user un-friendly, I’ve created a demo-site/account for three different sites now and none of them have the same log-in view, which makes me feel like I’m not even using wordpress since they’re all different.

Is there anything else I should be looking at? I’d love to learn HTML/CSS myself and would be more than willing, if it wasn’t for the fact that I NEED a competent CMS backend and know that I can’t learn that anytime soon.

My sites tend to be rather simple, but I like to be able to control the theme direction myself and create things like boxes and buttons in my own shape/color combo, not to close to the theme template. I’m selling 2 products, but again, I’d like to set up the presentation of them myself, not according to a theme.

What are my best options? I feel lost, there’s so many options but all seem critically faulted.
