Leica has announced its ‘Stealth Edition’, a special version of its ‘M Monochrom (Typ 246)’, designed by founder and CEO of New York fashion brand Rag & Bone Marcus Wainwright.

“Rag & Bone is a state of mind and I think black-and-white photography represents this beautifully,” explains Wainwright inside his video interview with Leica, featured below.

The ‘M Monochrom’, Leica’s camera that shoots purely in black and white, gets a matte black finish in this ‘Stealth Edition’; even its normally white lettering above the display screen goes dark. The idea was to highlight the “the unobtrusiveness of the camera to extremes…”

Upon entering a low-light environment, vital engravings on the body and its corresponding Summicron-M 35 mm f/2 ASPH fast prime lens are illuminated with the help of special fluorescent paint.

“This enables faster setting of the aperture or distance on the lens in low-light situations—a unique feature that brings clear benefits in spontaneous situations,” comments Leica inside a press release.

Lecia’s ‘Stealth Edition’ will go on sale beginning 20 March 2018 in select Leica stores. Only 125 units have been made available for retail worldwide, each bearing a unique serial number. Find out more about the camera here.
