In spite of Snapchat’s advertising guidelines and approval process on the marketing material that gets featured on the platform, an appalling ad managed to slip through recently that left many users taken aback.

The ad in question, shown below, is inspired by the game Would You Rather! and asks users if they would prefer to “Slap Rihanna” or “Punch Chris Brown.”

It references the 2009 ordeal where artiste Brown physically assaulted singer Rihanna, who was Brown’s girlfriend at that time. He was found guilty on 22 June 2009 for felony assault. Brown had to go through five years probation and domestic violence counseling.

Activist Brittney Packnett voiced out on Twitter, “I know that social media ads go through an approval process from the platform. This means #Snapchat approved an ad that makes light of domestic violence. The update ain’t the only thing that’s wack over there, friends.”

A spokesperson from Snap Inc. has apologized and told Mashable that the ad has since been removed as it violates the company’s advertising guidelines.
